The Palmetto State Law Enforcement Officers' Association was organized on October 4, 1961 in Columbia, South Carolina. The purpose of the association was to enhance the visibility, professional goals and achievement of black men and women in law enforcement in the state of South Carolina.

The association has continued through the years as an organized entity to further its educational goals and professional objectives. The association further endeavors to encourage and assist financially young high school graduates seeking education and training for careers in all areas of the Criminal Justice System. To this day, the association has not attempted to dissolve or merge with other law enforcement associations.

Members of the PSLEOA participate and hold active membership in all national, state, local and professional law enforcement associations on an individual and collective basis.

The PSLEOA staff is constantly seeking various types of benefits and services in which we can provide for our members. The PSLEOA is not a segregated organization. Every member is equally important and rank has no meaning. We are a highly powerful, organized, and respected organization. Our future aspirations are to play a significant role in legislation concerning law enforcement, education and training, retirement and definite improvements in all Criminal Justice Standards.
